Americans, move over.  No longer do we Canadians need to drool over cute styles at Anthropologie, Modcloth and Shopbop.  We have Joe Fresh and Alfred Sung Pure.  And you don’t!

These two uber cool, value priced clothing lines are available (get this) in a Grocery Store (Loblaws for Joe Fresh) and a discount department store (our version of Target – Zellers)

Joe Fresh is the braintrust of the Mimran Group, who were the originators of Club Monaco (yes, it’s Canadian)  they also had a line of chic interior-design stores that were associated with Loblaws called Caban in the 90’s.   Kim Mimran is the owner of Pink Tartan, a high end clothing designer (on a side note, Fabricland here has offered designer ends from Pink Tartan occassionally, some of which are in my stash) .  Joe Fresh offers current styles at affordable prices.  Clean lines and trendy pieces like these:

Trench Skirt $39

Blouse, $39

Sequin Striped T $24

Skinny Cargos

They also offer accessories, jewelery, footwear and costmetics – the cosmetics have the most beautiful lucite packaging:

Now for us tallies, the brand seems cut smallish & shortish.  But t-shirts, sweaters are great.  There is mens and cute, chic childrens wear, too.  Their website is found at:

Joe Fresh

Second, we have Alfred Sung – a Parsons grad, with ties to the Mimrans as well, together they launched the Monaco Group in the 1980’s with a fashion line for working women, akin to Donna Karan.  His fragrance line was HUGE and from what I understand is still a big seller.   Dissapearing from the Canadian fashion scene for a while, his bedding/bath lines reappeared at Zellers a while ago.   The PURE line has been in stores a couple of years, and it features current, well priced, clean lined separates all price under $50.   Check out the video which shows you the spring 2011 line:

On my wishlist is the cute little cardigans from Alfred Sung, the white-framed sunglasses, and the sequin t (there’s a tank top too) from Joe Fresh

Now it’s only fair to share with the Americans.  Apparently there is a Joe Fresh stand alone store to be lauched in the USA this year.  For that, we Canadians are getting a few Target stores.   International trade at it’s finest!
