Simplicity 2599 Variation

Simplicity 2599

Here is another version of Simplicity 2599 that I made recently; it was inspired by this top, CABi “La Femme” Ruffled top from Fall 2011:

I would like to thank Elaine May of the Selfish Seamstress for her Coffee Date Dress; as you can see I borrowed her cute ruffle detail for my top.

I would like to point out I am the exact opposite of Elaine; I am 6 ft tall, blonde, play volleyball, have 5 kids and live in the suburbs.  Elaine is 5ft tall, dark, petite, and lives the life of an international jet setting academic in Europe.  Still – I have her ruffle.

I scooped the neckline a little lower than the pattern and added a very deep facing (so it wouldn’t flip under with the weight of the ruffle) which I hand tacked invisibly behind the ruffle.  Fabric is a blush coloured lightweight stretch poly satin from Fabricland a couple of years ago.

Red Cords & Striped T

Here is my take on the coloured pants trend.  First, let me apologize for the pale haggard me.  I need to maybe change my hair colour?  Yuk – I might feel that tired but I’d like not to LOOK it so much!!

Top: HotPatterns Riviera Annisette Top 1021  Made from a nice b&w striped ponte knit purchased at Fabric Gallery, in Williamston Michigan on my road trip to Chicago PR weekend last year.  The bands and yoke ar remnants of an off white ponte from Fabricland.  I added about 3″ to the CF and made gathers above the bust.  This is the third time I’ve made this, I still think it is a unique knit top pattern.

Pants: Jalie Jeans 2908 narrowed to straight-leg jeans.  Fabric: rayon-blend corduroy with slight stretch from Fabricland.  This is the 3rd time I’ve made this pattern, next time I will make the higher rise which will probably be mid-rise on me.  They are quite tight – this fabric did not have much stretch at all (which would have been fine in a bigger size) .  I have some construction details on my other camera – I can’t say enough about how great this pattern is.

I have a few more things recently made, but I’m more excited to get some spring things cut and started – we’re having freakishly warm weather here!!

Thanks

Thanks for the input, for $20 I ordered a membership (discounted to $9.99) and the patterns. I think $4 shipping is reasonable. Claire, unfortunately our Fabricland has stopped pattern sales. Maybe every 2 months there is a Simplicity or New Look sale; but I buy mostly Vogues – They’ll ship up to 4 for $4, which is pretty reasonable IMHO. Sad thing is I could probably drive to their distribution center in Whitby and pick them up in 15 mins – and they usually take 2 weeks to arrive!

Summer Simplicities!

Cynthia Rowley 1802Yes I have been sewing.  Studying and work takes up all blogging time…as well as sewing for others.  Which. Must. Stop. Anywhoo…this Cynthia Rowley pattern is so so cute!

Massive McVoguerick sale on right now for $3.88; I think I might get V8747 which looks like a nice wardrobe staple and also maybe McCalls 6319, which looks chic and easy.  So cheap maybe it’s time to join Club BMV?  Anyone else a member?  What do you think? is it good value?

…sewing projects soon, promise….

SOLD

Bernina Virtuosa 150 for Sale.  Excellent condition, many accessories.

Price: $800 FIRM including shipping to USA and Canada

Price: $750 FIRM for pick up – Located in Toronto, Canada

This is my much loved Bernina, the first amazing sewing machine I ever bought.  I have inherited some fancier machines so this one has to go!

This machine is about 17 years old and has been well cared for. It is a quilting machine, so comes with a knee control and quilting guide. It is a free arm machine. As you know Bernina is a top quality machine.  It’s particular strength is its even precise stitching, especially buttonholes.  This machine comes with programmable, repeat buttonholes

This machine comes with 16 pre-programmed stitches including a straight buttonhole, keyhole buttonhole and grommet.  There are 9 programmable stitches which I have programmed with some simple, decorative stitches.  You would have to check with a Bernina dealer to see if you can change these stitches.  It also has some basic monograms as well as mirroring and repeat functions.  The machine has a free arm.

This also comes with a Bernina walking foot and specialty feet.  The feet alone would be worth about $200.00. Specialty feet include:

Bernina brand:

  • Walking foot in box
  • blind hem foot
  • invisible zipper foot
  • regular foot
  • buttonhole foot
  • 3mm rolled hem foot (with instruction sheet)
  • free motion quilt foot (with instruction sheet)
  • cording foot (with instruction sheet)
  • 5 groove pintucking foot (with instruction sheet)
  • zipper foot (with instruction sheet)
  • 4mm flat fell seam foot
  • quilt guide

Also included is:

  •  a short shank adaptor
  • binding foot to use with short shank adaptor
  • bobbins in storage box, plus 2 more
  • storage box for the presser feet.
  • Power cord
  • foot pedal
  • manual
  • knee control

I will include shipping to the USA and Canada if I get my price – I’m offering this to Patternreview first for a week before I sell on e-bay.  I have researched - similar machines with less attachments have sold for $800+ on e-bay. If you pick it up in the Greater Toronto Area, I will discount this machine $50 for the shipping.

Please note all sales final.  You are welcome to test it if you pick it up, but once it’s out my door its your baby.  If you have read about my Craigslist sale experince and you will understand why I’m saying this!

New Spring Vogue Patterns!

The last batch of spring pattern have been lauched, Yay!  Despite my hounding respectful requests on Vogue Patterns Facebook page as to when they would be coming, today was a happy surprise!  Even better, they arrived during a $3.99 sale!

Faster than you can say Sew,Stash,Sew 3 times, they were in my basket and paid for!  Here’s what I ordered:

Donna Karan V1282

DKNY V1287

Elizabeth Gillet V8796

The whole collection is very nice, continuing with many dresses as was the case last year.  I think with my Burdas, some New Looks and the Simplicities I nabbed last sale I have some planning to do!

Cute Spring New Look Patterns & Bonus techie tip

Tags

I haven’t found New Look patterns to be so special lately, but the new spring ones are certainly worth a second look; here are my faves:

Way to go Simplicity/New Look!

Also, here is a VERY COOL Technical tip, especially if you’re having a hard time grabbing images.  This works on a PC, not sure if there is a MAC equivalent.

Go to All Programs, Accessories, then find the Snip Tool.  This tool helps you grab screen images.  You can save them as jpegs (as I did for the pattern images above), or other formats or e-mail them to yourself or others. I love importing the pic into a Word file at work then adding text & graphics.    This way you can take just the images that you want without having to do a screen capture with all the header bars.

Try it! You’ll love it!

Sewing Update: I finished a version of Vogue 1250 today, which I shortened to top length.  I’ll post a bit later when I can get my pics off my camera!
